Crowell performs alternative premium audit services to reduce costs!
Crowell & Associates, Inc. started offering alternative services (Alt-Audits) to a physical audit over 30 years ago. During that time, it was a movement to perform smaller physical audits to reduce costs. Today, technology allows us to do a wide range of physical audits under our Alternate ALT-Audit program to lower cost plus increase data protection.
Virtual ALT-Audit Service
Crowell has experienced auditors handling any size physical audit in the US as a Virtual audit.
All Virtual audits are handled the same as we would do a Physical audit, except no physical on-site visit. We require the appropriate records to be sent through our secure website using a unique passcode and username. Records can also be mailed or sent overnight requiring a signature if needed. We discourage the use of email for sending records or at least require password for protected files. All copies and records are electronically stored on our secure system and accessible to authorized individuals of our customer for a limited time. Typically, we assign a dedicated auditor to a carrier.
Auditor Assist ALT-Audit Service
Crowell has experienced auditors assisting auditors with carriers on medium to large accounts.
The auditor assistant is assigned to work directly with a carrier auditor and assist in any area needed on an audit. This typically consists of taking data from records obtained and compiling an audited report (usually in Excel) to the point a carrier auditor will wrap up with the insured. Many carriers like to have one of their own auditors be the contact with the insured of their large accounts. Using the auditor assist service enables the carrier auditor to work on additional large accounts plus gives an experienced extra set of eyes working with the audit.

Telephone ALT-Audit Service
Crowell has experienced telephone auditors handling small premium audits.
Telephone auditors are trained to gather final audit numbers from the insured, have an exit interview to discuss the final numbers and to try and obtain federal or state quarterly tax reports for verification. These are audits on businesses with smaller payrolls or sales. Typically, one or two class codes and not a contractor type risk.
